In 2018 I graduated from Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg, France obtaining the Higher National Diploma of Visual Expression, Design field/ Diplôme national supérieur d’expression plastique option Design. In 2016 I graduate with honors and finished the first cycle atHEAR obtaining a National Diploma in Art and Design. Before this I obtained a bachelor degree in Communication Studies from the West University of Timisoara back in my home country, Romania.
From a personal point of view, I grew up in a family of craftsmen: My grandfather was a wood-turner artist and my father and his father were carpenters; they were always making furniture or designing new and interesting daily life objects that fascinated me. My grandmother was also a creative person; she worked in a knit-wear field. I used to spend all my summers creating wood objects in their workshops to play with, so hand craftsmanship is a valuable thing to me.
The passion and love that I put into all my projects comes from the family examples that I had, but I also feel happy for all the opportunities I had. I learned what it means to be a good designer and an artist from very passionate people like the designer Sebastian Herkner, or my professors Pierre Doze and Nathalia Moutinho.
From September 2016 to March 2017 I was a design assistant intern at Studio Sebastian Herkner in Frankfurt, Germany. I was part of a small team working on big projects. As an assistant designer of Sebastian Herkner, I worked for companies as: Pulpo products, Dedon, ex-t, Kundalini lightning, Lobmeyr, Wallpaper Handmade 2017 , Nya Nordiska, Verreum, Lamy or Schönbuch.
Even though I like to focus my work on creating objects for our living and preserve our traditions, I am also interested in natural science and technology; how it can improve our daily life and still, to be part of this natural system without destroying it. It gives me happiness to try out different techniques and work with various materials everyday.
In my daily work, I usually get inspired by nature, by the environment that surrounds me: a human environment, a build environment, a natural environment. With the impressive evolution of technology, I consider it is important to design objects that preserve the connection with our environment. It is important to learn to look at what surrounds us, at nature, at our environment, because this is where we come from, here is where we must live, and perhaps by looking at it and perhaps by doing less or act differently, we can live in a more harmonious way.
